Mechanics is a basic engineering discipline which originates from practice, faces the research and development of the pillars of a great power, super engineering and high-end manufacturing, and is closely related to engineering technology. Relying on the superior disciplines such as machinery and materials, the specialty of engineering mechanics is intended to train the senior professional and technical personnel who can engage in engineering design, S&T development, applied research and technical management related to mechanical issues in related fields, as well as high-level research talents who continue to study for master and doctoral degrees.
Engineering Mechanics in YSU stems from the Teaching and Research Section of Basic Mechanics of Northeast Heavy Machinery College in 1960. In 1977 and 1979, it enrolled two classes of mechanics. It resumed enrolling undergraduates who majored in Engineering Mechanics in 2000. The program duration is 4 years.
The students in this specialty are research and innovative talents, with diversified employment destinations. By virtue of the solid theoretical foundation of mechanics and strong engineering skills, most students have become excellent industry expert talents after graduation. The enrollment rate for national postgraduate entrance examination of Engineering Mechanics has been kept at about 50% for a long time, and the employers of undergraduates include the scientific research institutes, universities, various enterprises and institutions and national government agencies.
