Discipline of Mechanics in YSU stemmed from the Teaching and Research Section of Basic Mechanics of Northeast Heavy Machinery College in 1960. In 1977 and 1979, it enrolled two classes of mechanics. It resumed enrolling undergraduates who majored in Engineering Mechanics in 2000.
At present, the discipline has 28 full-time teachers, including 8 professors and 9 associate professors. It has 13 doctoral supervisors and 28 master supervisors. Five teachers have received special allowances from the State Council, and one teacher has been awarded the honorary titles of “National Advanced Individual of Teacher Morality” and “National Model Teacher”.
The discipline has the right to confer first-class doctoral degree and first-class master degree, and has established a postdoctoral station, and is the key discipline in Hebei and also the institution that has a complete training system covering undergraduate, master, doctoral and postdoctoral degrees in the field of mechanics. The specialty of Engineering of YSU, to which the discipline belongs, has been ranked in global top 1% of ESI.
The discipline has Key Laboratory on Mechanics Reliability of Heavy Equipment and Large Structure in Hebei and Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Basic Mechanics in Hebei relying on which the discipline has developed the significant professional characteristics and regional advantages in the fields of “nonlinear dynamics and control”, “electromagnetic-elastic multi-field coupling mechanics”, “special composite materials and advanced structures”, “micromechanics of composite materials”, etc. In the past ten years, it has undertaken more than 40 national, military, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, published more than 450 high-level academic papers, and won 8 provincial and ministerial S&T awards; and it has been granted two provincial high-quality courses and two provincial first-class undergraduate courses. In 2019, it was awarded as a provincial first-class undergraduate program.
The specialty of Engineering Mechanics of YSU will continue to uphold the spirit of Valuing Virtue, Pursuing Knowledge, and Seeking Truth, and make contributions to the research and development and talent training of pillars of great power, super engineering and high-end manufacturing.
