Established in 2001, the Department of Building Environment and Energy Engineering of YSU now has the undergraduate program in Building Environment and Energy Engineering, and two master degree programs such as Heating, Gas Supply, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Engineering and Civil and Water Resources (Artificial Environment Engineering). In 2019, it passed the professional evaluation by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, and was approved as a national first-class undergraduate program construction site in 2021.

The Department currently has 21 full-time teachers, including 3 professors, 9 associate professors, 2 doctoral supervisors, 15 master supervisors, with the proportion of teachers with doctoral degree over 95% and 2 teachers with the title of talents above provincial level. The teachers mainly come from Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Tsinghua University, Tianjin University, Harbin Institute of Technology, TongjiUniversity, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Dalian University of Technology, Chongqing University, Beijing University of Technology and other well-known universities.

The Department has two provincial research platforms such as Laboratory of Civil Engineering Green Construction and Intelligent Operation and Maintenance in Hebei and Technology Innovation Center for Low-carbon and Clean Heat Supply of Buildings in Hebei. The Department has developed significant professional features and location advantage in the fields of “green building renewable energy application and human environment control”, “urban low-carbon energy heating technology” and “intelligent pipe network and water treatment”. In recent years, the Department has undertaken more than 40 projects, with more than RMB20 million in scientific research, published more than 200 high-level academic papers and won 8 provincial and ministerial teaching, S&T awards.

The Department will continue to uphold the spirit of Valuing Virtue, Pursuing Knowledge, and Seeking Truth, and provide assistance for the energy conservation and emission reduction in China and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei synergistic development and sustainable development strategy.
