Stemming from the Teaching and Research Section of Building Architecture established in 1994, the Department of Architecture was established independently in 2002, and the first five-year undergraduate students of architecture were admitted in September of the same year. In 2011, the Department started to recruit international students, and has enrolled 20 consecutive classes so far. It has been approved for the right to grant master degree in architecture & civil engineering and architecture in 2006 and architecture in 2020, and approved as a provincial first-class undergraduate program construction site (specialty of architecture) in Hebei in the same year.
There are 13 full-time teachers, including one professor, five associate professors (including senior engineers) and six lecturers; all of them are from famous universities at home and abroad, and among them, five are first-class registered architects and two are registered planners, forming a “double-certification” professional faculty with certain scale and strength.
In recent years, the teachers have presided over 5 national and provincial scientific research projects, completed more than 90 engineering planning and design projects, published 7 teaching materials and reference books and more than 30 academic papers, and have been granted 30 provincial and university educational reform projects. The Department has guided students to participate in various S&T innovation competitions at home and abroad and achieved excellent results. In the past five years, the Department has won more than 20 awards in national competitions such as “Challenge Cup” Extra-curricular Academic S&T Works Competition, BIM Graduation Design Innovation Competition, Green Building Design Skills Competition, and more than 30 provincial and ministerial awards. In addition, the students who are actively encouraged to participate in innovation, entrepreneurship and social practice have won more than 50 awards such as the Outstanding Award in the National Environmental Protection Knowledge Contest of College Students, the First Prize in the National Student English Contest, the Second Prize in the Variety Category of the TV Competition of Chinese Universities, the Third Prize in Jinbei Entrepreneurship Competition, and the provincial Third Prize in the Social Investigation Activity of “Research in Hebei” for students in Hebei Province in 2020.
The teaching activities are conducted relying on the national and provincial research platforms, industry-university-research bases, unique interdisciplinary cross-cultivation mechanism, and the laboratories have been established for architectural modeling, architectural construction, architectural sound and light and thermal engineering, providing a strong guarantee for the training of architectural design and technology professionals.By actively building practical education bases with enterprises and institutions and establishing the teaching mode of “classroom + industry-university-research innovation base”, the Department has more than 10 various industry-university-research bases and student internship bases at present.
The Department will continue to uphold the spirit of Valuing Virtue, Pursuing Knowledge, and Seeking Truth, actively follow the major needs of national and Hebei social and economic development, and cultivate complex senior engineering and design talents for regional and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei collaborative development.
