The Experimental Center originated from the Material Mechanics Laboratory under the Teaching and Research Section of Basic Mechanics of Northeast Heavy Machinery Institute in 1960, and the laboratories for Construction Materials, Geotechnics and Metrology were constructed in 1996. In 2000, the School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics was founded with the approval of the University, and the Experimental Center was established at the same time.
There are 13 full-time lab technicians in the Experimental Center, including 5 senior experimentalists and 8 experimentalists, among them two with doctoral degree, seven with master degree and four with bachelor degree.
The Experimental Center has 6 provincial teaching and research platforms, such as Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Basic Mechanics in Hebei, Key Laboratory on Mechanics Reliability of Heavy Equipment and Large Structure in Hebei, Laboratory of Civil Engineering Green Construction and Intelligent Operation and Maintenance in Hebei, Technology Innovation Center for Low-carbon and Clean Heat Supply of Buildings in Hebei, Engineering Research Center of Urban Solid Waste Harmless Cooperative Disposal and Utilization in Hebei, and Technology Innovation Center of High-Performance Construction Materials in Hebei. The Experimental Center has an experimental area of 2630m2, 1820 sets of equipment, with a total value of RMB32.2292 million, including 23 sets of large precision equipment over RMB200,000, such as TESCAN scanning electron microscope, MTS high-tonnage universal testing system, Instron drop hammer impact testing system, Shimadzu electro-hydraulic servo fatigue testing machine, etc., with a total value of RMB15.6985 million.
The Experimental Center undertakes experimental teaching in four professional directions, including basic mechanics, civil engineering, architectural environment and equipment, and contains laboratory of material mechanics, vibration laboratory, fatigue laboratory, micromechanics and dynamic thermo-mechanical laboratory, structure laboratory, civil engineering materials laboratory, geotechnical laboratory, road and bridge laboratory, fluid mechanics laboratory, laboratory of ventilation, HVAC, engineering thermodynamics and boiler room equipment, building physics laboratory, building model room, etc.
With the purpose of cultivating talents, the Experimental Center of the School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics is committed to managing and utilizing the various research platforms and the high-end equipment, and strengthening the sense of service to students and teachers. The Center will continue to adhere to the rigorous academic discipline and the practical spirit, and overcome difficulties to make our greatest contribution to the talent training and scientific research enhancement of the school and the University.
